Which Lampshades Can Be Recovered?
We can recover many traditional hand-sewn and modern hard-backed lampshades, keeping their original size, shape and character.
However, the frame or rings must be suitable for reuse. We do not repair broken frames, so please contact us before sending your shade.
Fabric options depend on the shade’s construction. If you would like to supply your own material, contact us first so we can check its suitability.
Traditional Lampshade Recovering
Traditional lampshades are particularly well suited to recovering. Providing the frame is in good condition, we can carefully remove the existing fabric and lining before recovering it by hand in your chosen materials.
In addition, traditional lampshade recovering is ideal for vintage, unusual or difficult-to-replace shades. By retaining the original frame, we can preserve its shape and character while giving your lampshade a beautiful new look.

Hard Lampshade Recovering
Modern hard-backed lampshades require a different approach. Rather than being sewn directly onto a traditional frame, these shades are generally constructed using a firm backing material attached to metal rings.
Where possible, we can reuse the existing rings to recreate your lampshade in a new fabric. This allows you to retain the original size and proportions while choosing a completely different colour, texture or finish.
In addition, you can choose from a range of lining options to personalise your finished shade. Depending on the design, this can include classic white or metallic finishes such as gold, silver and copper.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you recover an old or vintage lampshade?
Yes.
Recovering is ideal for old, vintage and unusual lampshades that may be difficult to replace. Where possible, we retain the original frame to preserve its shape and character.
Can hard-backed lampshades be recovered?
Yes
Many hard-backed lampshades can be recovered. Where suitable, we can reuse the existing rings and recreate the shade using new backing material, fabric and lining.
Do I need to remove the old fabric before sending my lampshade?
No.
Please leave your lampshade as it is. This allows our team to assess its original construction before carefully removing the existing covering.
Is it better to recover or replace a lampshade?
If you have a favourite, unusual or difficult-to-replace shade, recovering allows you to retain its original shape while giving it a completely fresh appearance. If recovering isn’t suitable, we can also create a new bespoke lampshade.
Can you alter the size or shape when recovering my lampshade?
Generally, recovering retains the existing frame and therefore the original shape and proportions. If you would like a different size or shape, a new bespoke lampshade may be a better option.
Can you match the original fabric?
Where possible, we can help you find a fabric with a similar colour, texture or appearance. Alternatively, you can choose something completely different to give your lampshade a new look.
